A poem by Kala Hathorn
We are a city on a hill that cannot be hidden
Just like the depths of hatred in this nation that needs to be forgiven
Darkness cannot comprehend light, so we must continue to share love until we get it right
Oh, the ugliness of unbelief what a sore sight, a faithless nation that has forfeited the fight
We must continue to share love until we get it right
Our nation, divided but yet equal
How? Because we are still people, reliving the same evils
It is said that those who don’t learn from the past, are bound to repeat it
So, why are we allowing giants of racism, lawlessness, and hostility to remain sleeping
Awaken the beast, no awaken the hunger in me to still fight for this so called “American Dream”
We live in a world where lies become a reality, and the truth becomes a casualty
We are a city on a hill that cannot be hidden
It has been written, that our light shall shine so bright that it brings vision
A vision of peace to the mentally grieved
A vision of faith to help those who struggle with unbelief
An abundant life for you and for me, to rise out of mental and physical poverty
And to have strength to shed the layers of animosity, even though we have been dealt with improperly
Like the disbelief in some of our eyes as we watched, our nation become a mockery
So, just out of curiosity, with a show of hands who believes we can overcome inequality with generosity
I believe we can, and I believe we will, because we are city on a hill that cannot be hidden
Love is our language and peace is our vision
