Is Gov Jeff Landry out to get New Orleans?  Does he want to take over the city?  Does he intend to pull a Jackson, MS like hijacking?  Or is he just taking the state in a new direction and dragging New Orleans along.  Or is he trying to help make the city better? As a pro business Republican, does the governor support the African American business class in the city?  Does he care? Is he engaging the African American community? If not is there anything the city can and should do?

Reading articles at the New Orleans Tribune and other media outlets, many say the state is now going in the wrong direction.  The recently ended legislative special session delivered dramatic changes.  The most impactful to everyday folks is the concealed carry change.  Starting in July, everybody can carry a concealed weapon.  No training required.  Oh and all criminal and civil liability removed.

Does Landry Want to Control New Orleans?

And the new regular session might be even more impactful. First, the new regular session has a huge workload.  Over 1100 bills filed.  Nearly every facet of life in Louisiana is addressed.  But an undeniable conservative leaning is clear.  Changes to voter laws, education, New Orleans infrastructure, and police interactions are all up for debate.  But, with the supermajority Republican legislature, the debate is how conservative can you go?

What is Jeff Landry’s end game?  Is he pulling a Booby Jindal?  In other words, are the changes he’s making just resume building for a future presidential run? Or is he dog whistling Donald Trump?   If Trump is reelected, is the governor merely laying the foundation for an appointment in the new administration?  Or is Gov Landry just a hyper conservative Cajun who has a vison and a willing legislature to implement it?

Gov Landry Needs a Successful NOLA

Whatever the game plan, one thing is certain.  Louisiana is more conservative than ever before.  And getting more conservative after each legislative session. But New Orleans is still the economic engine of the state. And New Orleans is a Democratic stronghold.  So, if these values clash what happens next?

The governor must come correct with New Orleans.  The state financially depends on New Orleans. The city’s tourism is still Louisiana’s cash cow.    Small projects in St. Martinville depend upon tax dollars from New Orleans. And Landry is more pragmatic than the shortsighted  Jindal.  Even if he aspires for more, getting there requires New Orleans.  The Bobby Jindal model cut taxes and simultaneously reduced New Orleans generated taxes.  The state was essentially bankrupt, despite massive spending cuts.

Landry is a lawyer and understands precedent.  We have clues about his vision.  Lock up more people to create jobs for the prison industrial complex.  Defund public schools to enrich private schools. Suppress voter turnout to protect the current supermajority.  But killing the economic engine that is New Orleans is Bobby Jindal level stupid.

Gov Landry is an ultra-conservative.  He envisions the good old days of  law and order.  He likes men being men, who can pull out guns to settle scores. Schools can teach what they want. He wants rural parishes to thrive. But he can count all the tax dollars that New Orleans sends to Baton Rouge.

  1. Gov. Landry is Out TO DESTROY Louisiana , but mainly New Orleans; following in X Gov. Devil Jindal Steps. New Orleans City Tourism Generates More Tax Dollars for the State, & Landry wants to be able to Control that Money.
Landry has High Polictical Ambitions & He’s Marching to The Trump Agenda of A BULLYING DICTATORSHIP WAY OF POLITICS. Why is Landry, sending LA. State Troopers to Houston’s Boarders & Going Himself? He was Elected Gov. Of Louisiana NOT TEXAS! Our State Troopers are PAID To HELP Louisiana Citizens FIRST; STOP MISUSING LA. TAX MONEY ON HIS PERSONAL POLITICAL VENTURES with his Friends.
LANDRY’S, CAMPAIGN PROMISE WAS TO BE THE GOVENOR FOR ALL THE PEOPLE OF LOUISIANA; SO FAR HE’S FAILING; AS ALL HIS NEW AGENDA BILLS WITH THIS RUSHED SPECIAL SESSION SEEMS TO DISMANTLE & UNDERMIND LOUISIANA CITIZENS ON ALL FRONTS. GOV. LANDRY’S AGENDA & SPECIAL SESSION BILLS IS TO SET HIM UP WITH A FAVORABLE EYE IN THE GOP PARTY COME NOVEMBER. BUT, GOD WILL HAVE THE LAST WORD ON ALL THESE EVIL DOERS; WITH THEIR FALSE WORSHIP &
DEVIL DEEDS FOR CHANGE. THESE BILLS ARE NOT OF GOD, FOR HIS PEOPLE.; JUST MEN THAT WILL DO ANYTHING FOR POWER. THE HISTORY
THESE EVIL CRONNIES ARE TRYING TO CHANGE IN LOUISIANA, GOD WILL NEVER ALLOW IT TO LAST! AMEN…
I PRAY & ASK IN THE MIGHTY NAME OF JESUS; THAT GOD MAKE IT RIGHT! AMEN 🙏🙏

  2. The misconception that Landry needs a strong New Orleans is hogwash ,what he is after is a New Orleans he can control and manipulate to his political advantage. While his S&WB moves should provide evidence that in his view local government isn’t prepared to do the job as it should be done. Where is the uproar from the local government and the existing board. As far as I am aware of all Louisiana’s major water systems have serious problems that mirror what we have to one degree or another. Has any local political organization or individual ID’d the issues w/ Jeff Parish, St. Tammany, BR or others? We all know about the quality of service issues that have been going on for years but how DUMB can the Board be, with the negative spotlight shining brightly on the S&WB they approve a pay raise for the person in charge. It’s like smoking weed when you know you have to take a drug test. Is it arrogance, stupidity or just plain IDGAF?
Let’s not isolate the NOSWB as the only example to cite. In Louisiana we have one of the highest incarceration rates in the world which tells me throwing away the key doesn’t work. Coupled with that our education system is also one of the worst. So tell me how will the no permit/concealed carry for 18+ keep you and I safe. We continue to enable stupidity and stupid people and at the same time wonder why we have and continue to suffer from a major brain drain. We blame our problems on everybody but the one in the mirror. It’s not Landry,it’s not Cantrell nor is Trump, Biden or those holering their religious hypocrisies’. These folks do what’s best for THEM and their personal agenda and until more of us speak up our landscape will continue to get worse.
My father used to say ” You can’t make chicken salad out of chicken shit” I think he was right…
