A Black History Month Celebration—Trump Style

Meanwhile, at President Trump’s Black History Month party, Herschel Walker and other notable Black Republicans who’ve done so much for Black people were palling around with Trump and White nationalists.

There were no reports on whether they compared whose Nazi salute was better—Steve Bannon’s or Elon Musk’s. But surely, it was on the agenda (and clearly, Musk went in harder, notice the emphasis and the erect straightening of the arm).

Notable Sellouts Absent, But Some Still Showed Up

Notable sellouts like Snoop Dogg, Soulja Boy, and Nelly were not in attendance, a strange occurrence. No word on whether they missed it due to scheduling conflicts or previous backlash. But Kodak Black and Lil Boosie held it down for them.

Of course, Tiger Woods was there, along with Diamond and Silk, Candace Owens, Alveda King, Sen. Tim Scott, and others who’ve caused Civil Rights icons to roll over in their graves.

The Death of Black History Month?

There had to be an ominous air throughout the party. It was only a few weeks ago that Trump’s Defense Secretary issued a “death to identify months” memo. The memo didn’t specify whether the military or its threat would enforce the death. But everyone in attendance knew this could be the last time Trump celebrated Black History Month.

A Menu Fit for Stereotypes

It was reported that collard greens were served. Not that there’s anything wrong with collard greens. But collard greens were served. Because apparently, that’s what Trump thinks Black food is.

To be fair, servers passed around champagne, and no one forced attendees to drink it straight from the bottle.

Trump’s Rare Misstep—No Attacks on DEI or Black Jobs

Strangely, while sipping on the aforementioned champagne and slurping down greens, Trump didn’t bring up his proxy war on Black Americans via DEI. And neither did he make any bold declarations about Black jobs, despite the room being ripe for such degradation.

This was a rare misstep by Trump and possibly a sign that the man is finally showing his age.

A Toast to the “Good” Black Men

Trump marked the occasion by raising a glass to Tiger Woods and other Black men who he felt knew their place. One of those men was Prince Estabrook, a slave who fought for the United States during what Trump considers the “good war”—the Revolutionary one, not the Civil one.

History has it that Estabrook was one of the first to take a bullet. To commemorate Estabrook’s apparent allegiance to his masters, Trump vowed to dedicate a statue to him. The statue is set to be displayed in Trump’s National Garden of American Heroes.

There was no word on whether actual heroes like Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglass, or Robert Smalls would also have a statue there. And no one asked.

MAGA Merch for the Occasion

Of course, there was merch at the party. What would be a Trump event without merch? The most notable item was a MAGA hat, but to mark the occasion, these hats had MAGA BLACK embroidered on them.

Trump ensured that all the Black legends, warriors, champions, and patriots (his words) in attendance wore one.

The Firing of a Black Military Leader

Trump didn’t give them a heads-up about his plan to fire the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff the next day. Charles Q. Brown Jr. was only the second Black man to ever hold the position.

Both Trump and his Secretary of Defense have declared him a DEI hire. This 40-year veteran of the military was informed of his dismissal over the phone.

The Final Verdict—RIP Black History Month

Back to the party. All in all, it was a smashing affair. Black people uncomfortable in their skin got to network with other Black people who are also uncomfortable in their skin.

Trump thanked Black men for doubling their support for him and vowed that more appreciation is yet to come.

Just don’t expect any of it to take place during what we used to call Black History Month. RIP.
