Juneteenth marks the day when the last enslaved Black people in Texas learned they were free. That was 1865. But in 2025, we still need to remind America that freedom isn’t guaranteed—and it damn sure isn’t equal.
That’s why Juneteenth matters more than ever right now.
Trump’s War on Diversity Is a War on Us
Donald Trump and his allies don’t want America to be honest about its past—or its present. They’ve targeted DEI programs, banned books, and bullied universities into pretending racism ended in 1965. In his world, Black history is a threat. Our progress is offensive. Our freedom is optional.
That’s why Juneteenth celebrations matter in this moment. Because they are loud. Black. Joyful. Free. And yes—political.
Let’s be real: Trump’s rollback of diversity programs isn’t just about “efficiency.” It’s about erasure. When you defund DEI, you defund Black opportunity. When you erase Black history, you make space for white lies.
And when you attack Juneteenth? You attack the idea that Black people deserve freedom on our own terms.
From Galveston to Georgia: The Fight Continues
When Union troops rolled into Galveston in 1865 and told Black folks they were free, that wasn’t the end. It was the beginning.
We fought for voting rights. For schools. For housing. And for dignity. And every time we gained something, America tried to snatch it back.
Now, we see the same playbook. States are canceling DEI. Billionaires are funding lawsuits to end scholarships for Black students. And conservative judges are rewriting civil rights law with a pen full of Jim Crow ink.
Juneteenth reminds us that freedom delayed is freedom denied—but it also reminds us that freedom must be defended. Constantly.

This Ain’t Just a Day Off. It’s a Day On.
Don’t let your job giving you the day off fool you. Juneteenth isn’t a corporate holiday. It’s a call to action.
Yes, celebrate. Yes, barbecue. And yes, wear your red and green. But don’t forget to teach your kids what this day means. Don’t forget to remind your coworkers why this day matters. And don’t forget to register to vote—because this next election may be the most important of our lives.
Juneteenth isn’t about feeling good. It’s about being free. And in Trump’s America, that freedom is on the ballot.

Freedom Ain’t Free—But It’s Ours
We didn’t wait on America to free us. We pushed it. Yes we forced it. We demanded it.
And we still do.
This Juneteenth, remember the ancestors who waited two years for word of their freedom. And ask yourself: What are we still waiting for? Equal schools? Fair housing? Justice that doesn’t come with a knee on our neck?
We’re not asking anymore. We’re building. Teaching. Voting. Organizing. And celebrating like freedom depends on it—because it does.
Let this Juneteenth be a reminder: We are still here. We are still rising. And we will never, ever be silent again.

You knocked it out of the park again Jeff. Just imagine if those same 3.5 to 5 million “No King” protesters shifted that energy and started a “NO ENABLERS” march and voter drive to vote out those GOP Congress folks and Senators who sit on their hands and stay quiet, VOTE THEM OUT! You have to remind them that the Founding Fathers created Congress as a guardrail to prevent the rise of Kings. They had seen that movie before and didn’t like it! It’s really sad that their constituents are calling them out at town halls and their answer is to avoid the town hall, rather than heed the warnings. As you stated in your article, WE THE PEOPLE, have to power to shut the current Administration down and get our country back on track. We (the voters) have to do it! We can’t count on anyone to do it for us. I have faith in the ballot. We’ve been fooled once, to borrow a line from the rock band, The Who, WE DON’T GET FOOLED AGAIN!
As Americans, we cannot stop fighting for what every resident deserves – and it is not what we have at this moment in time. United we stand on Juneteenth and the other 364 days of the year!
