A Vision for New Orleans Leadership

I am considering a run for Mayor of New Orleans. I meet with residents to learn what they want in our next leader and how to drive our city forward.

Returning to Our Roots in New Orleans

We used to let ideas and leadership emerge from the community. My journey shows one thing clearly: we must return to our roots.

The Reality of New Orleans Politics

Recent conversations with concerned New Orleanians revealed life in our city in 2025. Our community feels disempowered. Special interests gain power and push projects through with little public input.

Addressing the Disconnect in New Orleans Governance

Politics in New Orleans disconnect from the people our government serves. Our government shows a lack of transparency. Officials make deals without community input. Residents learn about projects after city planning, safety, permits, developers, and consultants ally against community interests. People feel helpless and powerless.

The Importance of Public Engagement in New Orleans Development

I cite recent projects like Top Golf and the pedestrian bridge in District E. They advanced after public input lost influence. Officials ignored public concerns. We do things backwards. We must address public concerns early, before approvals occur.

Balancing Special Interests and Community Needs

Developers and business interests now dominate our city’s political landscape. They should serve the people, not their own interests.

Holding the Powerful Accountable

Not every contractor, developer, or business acts in bad faith. Many do right by our community. However, some always prioritize their own interests over ours. They cut corners, dismiss public concerns, and push projects without true engagement. We must hold these forces accountable if we want a city that works for its people, not just for profit.

Empowering New Orleans from the Bottom Up

I commit to a bottom-up approach. Our residents must shape our ideas before they advance. The community knows more than any leader. I support representative government, but true representation requires community participation.

Resilience and Renewal in Our Beloved City

My career faced setbacks, but I returned to protect New Orleans. I will not let companies take advantage of us.

Shaping the Future of New Orleans Leadership

We love defending New Orleans. We must give the mic back to the people who make our city.

A Call to Engage: The Community Speaks

My city stands at a crossroads. Challenges and opportunities will shape our future. Let’s return to our roots by listening to the people. We can bring positive change and progress for the many, not just the few. I want to hear from you. Please take my quality of life survey at otforus.com/survey.

For New Orleans,
Oliver Thomas, District E Councilmember
